I heard I think here at macrumors that Sony's mp3/phone is selling like hotcakes and I think they branded it as a walkman/cell phone.
What I hope is that the iPhone will be on Cingular, since my entire family and most of my friends are on it. I'd pass on the phone if they do one of those new deals where you're piggy-backing on other networks like Alltel (alltell, altell??) or it's on another carrier.

Here in Japan Sony's Chaku-Uta (mobile/cell phone music) dominates the market. With Chaku-Uta digital music sales out selling iTunes. Almost every Japanese phone can play Chaku or Chaku-Uta music.
The Cell phone networks in Japan do have good connections to the internet and mobile devices sell extremely well here. iTunes on a cell phone would work well here but Sony and Chaku-Uta may have it sewn up.

If you look closely though, Microsoft made LESS in revenue ($16billion to Apple's 20billion) but almost equally matches Apple in profit (5.3 billion to Apple's ~6billion). All things equal, Microsoft is still a better company in terms of profitability range due to their significant lower revenue but a close call on profit standards.
That's quite a spin. Almost a pure software company SHOULD have higher profit margins to a 50/50 hardware/software company. The fact is AAPL stock is so high because investors like that AAPL has many profit engines and a good history of bringing new ones online every year. MSFT has not had a real hit in forever.

Now lets see a 30gig ipod that does video decently, with some sorta of gapless playback or a 8gig nano for the same price? Hmm hard choice. Yeah right gapless(even it is software based?) and large space wins all the time. Now if they add more of a eq option and built in fm(with recording) I would for sure get one.
Now can someone confirm if gapless is true gapless or software based? I know with rockbox on the ipod you get true hardware based gapless but with this it is not clear.
Another question how is battery of video improved but not audio? And I am under the impression a brighter screen means worse battery life so in turn it could mean under real life situations video playback is more like 2.5-3 hours?

I'm personally of the opinion that anyone that thinks they have any privacy in this digital age is lying to themselves. There is no privacy, every single time you do anything on the internet or cell phone, some device somewhere is keeping a log of it. This is just one more way. But like other people mentioned, unless you're a criminal or the victim of a highly sophisticated stalker, then no one really cares about your private data.
With that said, if Apple is in fact storing location data when you specifically turn location services off on your iPhone, then this is a big problem that needs to be remedied. Their TOS specifically states that they are not collecting this data when you turn location services off and that is a flat out lie.

Seriously. I mean I support the environment, but I know reactionary sensationalism when I see it. As someone said, Greenpeace has lost most of it's respect, even with the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).
i followed you up til you implied that the EPA is some gold standard of environmentalism. talk about an agency/group having lost respect...

We won't see any real change until we hit Santa Rosa.
Kentsfield is two Conroes on a single die. They don't share cache like the previous Pentium D chips. So they'll each have 4 MB of cache and then communicate over the front side bus. This is why I think Apple has got to be thinking about how they can put Kentsfield and then Tigerton - or perhaps beginning with Tigerton if it's a lot cooler - into the next generation of iMacs. If they stick with Merom, they will not get to four mobile cores for another 1-2 years at the soonest - as I understand the roadmap.
Do we know Kentsfield pricing yet? Probably not.
I think a redesign of the iMac's cooling system is imperative so that they can keep Kentsfield/Tigerton cool inside the new design - at least in the 23" model + a 30" model next year. I like the perforated edge approach as a best possible solution depicted here in this 30" aluminum iMac mock-up (I have no idea who created this - sorry). I'm thinking the bottom and top edges would want to be perforated as well. In this mock-up, it's not clear they are.
Body could still be plastic. But Aluminum is a great heat conductor so the whole body would be air cooling the insides like non-fan aluminum hard drive cases do today.

I don't think we're getting the movie store or movie iPod just yet.
The sites that claim to have gotten an invite are French. (Not sure about Your Mac Life, though). Also, this event is being broadcat in London and Paris. This makes me think this announcement will be for downloadable European TV shows and not the iTunes Movie Store.
But - in the spirit of contradicting myself and being hopelessly optimistic, go check out the iPod refurb store. $100 off the 5G iPods instead of $50. That makes me think they're clearing inventory.
---------------
Also - In terms of branding - Quicktime Move Store perhaps?
---------------
I'm also guessing that we'll see speed bumps to the iMac and MacBook Pro (since they're the oldest) this Tuesday. The rest we may see during Apple Expo Paris.
Keep in mind that Steve doesn't do a keynote for speed bumps. Just tech advances.

Exactly. You should be able to CUT a file and move it. I bought an app in the Mac App Store that does just that...
Should be built in.
That other thing that sucks in the folder view. I want folders first in A to Z, then files A to Z like in Windows... Not a default option....
So in other words it is a very minor missing feature, easily eclipsed by dozens of important features that are only found on a Mac.

If they were running away and unarmed then the security guard was in the wrong.
Tennessee v Garner says that you cannot shoot an unarmed fleeing felon in the back.
I was being sarcastic. They were not running away and unarmed. They opened fire on the security guard. The use of lethal force was justified.

Oh man, this just get's more and more confusing.
Now The Register is claiming there'll be Merom's not only in the MacBook Pro, but in the MacBook too in September:
Apple's MacBook to get an early Merom upgrade? (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/08/11/apple_macbook_to_get_merom/)Perfect. That works for me 'cause if Apple doesn't present a redesigned MBP with an easy access HD Bay, I'm definitely going C2D MacBook. Already "bought" a pair of 2.5" external USB 2 cases today - for FREE after rebate - in anticipation of removing the stock drive and replacing it with a Seagate 160. :)

Apple's market share is growing but the fact that they supposedly (according to other posts) sell 90% of the computers that cost more than $1000 indicates that they are never going to really own the market. If they want to achieve true market dominance they need to lower their prices to attract the "I ain't paying over $800 for a fricking computer" crowd (the vast majority of people). Until they make their products affordable to the majority, they will never have a majority of the market share. Windows will always be around unless they make their products so that everyone can buy one.
They can still make record profits though.
However, if you exclude revenue that did not come from computers (ipods, itunes, etc.) and only look at products that are directly comparable (both companies sell a similar product) Microsoft has decidedly more revenue. For example there are two stores: Store 1 (pharmacy and other things including non perishable food) and Store 2 (food only). Only a small portion of store 1 's revenue comes from food. Store 1 is bigger than store 2 but it would be wrong to assume that store 1 is a bigger player in the food market as only a small portion of its revenue comes from food. It actually has less market penetration than store 2.

"So Live and Let Die!"
You shoot their leg, they shoot you in the head.
Anyone who points a gun at another person is asking for trouble, even if he/she doesn't fire it.
If guns didn't exist, things like this wouldn't be happening.
If guns did not exist it would be happening with whatever does. swords, rocks, fists... in which case the mall cop would have probably been killed in this situation and lost the "good fight". It becomes a game of numbers when guns do not exist... all guns do is put everybody on a level playing field regarldess of numbers (be realistic) or physical strength.

The phone's look is indeed very similar.
Of course, Samsung's Android phone has many additional items such as their pulldown notification shade with built-in radio and orientation lock controls... which many people would love for Apple to copy.
http://www.techlicious.com/images/computers/samsung-galaxy-tab-8_9-vs-10_1-vs-ipad2-front.jpg
The tablet is a different matter, and doesn't have the same look.
Actually, the tablet's look the same too. But, that's also a factor of many design decisions made over time by Google, et al. Here's the odd thing about the tablet. Samsung's first 10.1 looked similar to the iPad, with the non-tapered edges, and black bezel. Then, when Samsung saw the iPad 2... and I'm guessing it WASN'T at Apple's unveiling... (we've all been hearing rumors, they're in a position to get MORE than rumors, but molds) they began finalizing a new design... with tapered edges and improved thinness. When Samsung finally unveiled their "new design", the prototype didn't function. They only had the originals out to show UI stuff. Now, they're pushing for a release in June, when they've finalized the hardware and moved it into production.
http://www.theiloop.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/galaxy-tab-10.1-vs-ipad-2.jpg
I think they know what they're doing. They're counting on the products looking similar, and they'll do anything to make that happen. My assumption is, that beyond ANY other manufacturer, Samsung is the one most in position to duplicate Apple's hardware designs. The last episode with the tablets I would definitely characterize as "slavish". They even had a quote from Samsung to go with it.
Lee Don-joo, executive vice president of Samsung's mobile division, said that Apple has presented new challenges for the South Korean company with a thinner mobile gadget that is priced the same as its predecessor.
"We will have to improve the parts that are inadequate," Lee told Yonhap News Agency. "Apple made it very thin." The idea that they have a rapid development and engineering group isn't that difficult to grasp. I honestly just wish they'd do their own thing, because inevitably this would happen. It's like someone behind you is copying your test answers and muttering about it, and when you finally turn back and yell, "Enough!" The class is looking at you like you have the problem.

I can't comprehend the leap in logic in this line of thinking. The app is on the phone. Using an app is not dangerous. What is dangerous here are people who drink and then proceed to get behind the wheel.
The problem is the drinking not the an app on a phone. If you want to stop drunk driving address the drinking of alcohol.
What next? lets get rid of computer email software because someone can email you where the speed trap is or how about getting rid of web browsers because they are used to display similar content on the web? Ridiculous.
I wish people would just think about the implications of allowing such non-sense from being implemented into law.
If any of you had ever lost someone or had someone that you loved seriously injured by a drunk driver - you'd want this app pulled.
0 good can come from drunk driving. I don't know anyone (intelligent person) who would say otherwise. Constitutional or not, who in the world would want to encourage a drunk person to get behind the wheel? ..which is exactly what these apps do. I'm sure that there's a percentage of drunk drivers who have ventured out on the roads only because they had the convenience of these apps - when otherwise, they would have gotten a ride or sobered up first.

They don't want to call their store "MobileApp" because they already have a store. It's called "Marketplace".
They would however like to describe their store that called "Marketplace" by saying that it is a store that sells apps. You know, an app store.
It is a market that sells apps. You know, and app market. No need for them to describe it as an App Store since that description would not fly over anyone's head.
