I agree as it is the only common sense system, but the argument is negated by the patent. That was for a portable music device with Hierarchal menu display/navigation system, (HFS is a file system Apple has used and not used in Creative's players).
The courts could have said prior art, case dismissed or patent stands, Apple owes Creative $10 for every iPod sold since day 1. Apple didn't want to take any risks and settled. Good all round as far as I can see, even if I do agree it is a stupid patent award.
Oh, I agree that Apple did the sensible thing. But it just makes me angry that they should be in the situation in the first place.

If Apple does go with the Core 2 Extreme on the Mac Pro across the line, I think they will retain the liquid cooling technology in the top end and push the chip just beyond its rated specs to 3 GHz. This will cross a major threshold for the Mac Pro line and finally deliver on that "promise" Jobs made a while back. It will also keep the Mac Pro moving forward on the GHz front, similar to the other lines.
Most likely, however, Apple will employ Woodcrest across the entire line of Mac Pros and XServes for economies of scale and volume discounts. Apple's advertising will not promote GHz, obviously, but will still focus on the "3x faster" and post some impressive benchmark figures.
I also believe the Mac Pro will include some additional "new" or landmark technologies, simply because it's been so long in the making and Apple's stock has been taking a beating lately. Perhaps they will include Blu-Ray capability or some other "wow" technology that we hadn't foreseen. I think Apple needs to make a big splash with the Mac Pro.
Also, since Apple has like $7 billion in the bank, can someone tell me why they don't spend a few hundred million dollars on a really powerful Mac ad campaign? I know they're advertising now, but it's not anywhere near what it should be -- it's just token advertising. We need Apple to saturate the media, and do really hard-hitting ads. Now is the time, especially if Microsoft is going to steal any thunder from the iPod this Christmas. Apple has put too many eggs into its iPod basket, and it hasn't focused much on promoting the Mac in a serious, powerful way.

Thing is though... if the new top end MacBook Pro can 2.3 can keep up with and beat even a current 8 core Mac Pro in some instances and trounce the quad core model, just how powerful is a top end Sandy Bridge iMac going to be :confused:
And seeing as Apple blessed us with quad core in the laptops, I would bet my remainder of my hair on my head that the top end iMac option at most will have six core sandy bridge :D
i would crack up if they switched to amd chips!! and nvidia gpus,

As someone looking forward to buying my very first Mac desktop; I must say this is a pretty lame rumour. 'Sandy Bridge'? 'Thunderbolt'? Nothing surprising; everyone here was expecting these two items. I want more specific rumours!:p
The wait continues...:(
Don't forget the possibility of better graphics and SSD as standard, now thats gotta be worth a grin :)

The MBP 13" is not quite the bang up job. It got a GPU downgrade and the benchmarks show it. The MBA won't be any different. There's no doubt about it, if you're looking for a GPU upgrade, go look elsewhere.
It's just the reality Intel forced onto us, why does anyone want to live in denial ?
For 99% of the market, the integrated graphics are fine. The majority of consumers don't read tech sites and are happy with the performance. The typical pc buyer doesn't know what a benchmark is. In almost every Apple vs Winodws pc argument on this and every other Mac site, the Mac fans without fail say specs don't matter. If you're a gamer, you'll notice the performance hit. To the million plus people who will buy the next model it won't make any difference.

I bought one, just to test. Wasn't bad, would buy more if they add a title I want.
Hmm... your actions are supporting my thoughts... how many of those 125,000 downloads were simply to try it out - probably a lot of them. I'm more interested to see how many downloads have been sold after the first 90 days.

Linux = ~1%
Malware, in relation to Linux, shows that the market share argument is a fallacy.
Linux dominantes the segment of the market share that includes high value server targets.
Controlling a large number of servers would be much more profitable than infecting a large number of home users.
For example, take control of a large number of servers and set up a web filter proxy on each server to modify the affiliate tags associated with advertising moving through the server to direct the profit of the advertising away from the sites hosting the ads to the individual that controls the server. With this type of attack, exploiting one server is the equivalent of exploiting every machine that passes data through that server.
More info here. (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Antivirus#Possible%20reasons%20linux%20is%20less%20prone%20to%20malware) -> The root user vs normal usage counter argument also applies to Mac OS X.

Backing up to optical media is generally a poor decision. The longevity of the media is suspect. While I understand that improvements continue, I have seen many CDs and DVDs just quit working over time.
The reply immediately after your's is good advice in my opinion. Backing up to the cloud is my preferred primary backup. I use crashplan+. I also keep a 2nd local backup in the house using Time Machine/Time Capsule. I backup locally every hour... and I back up to the cloud every 15 minutes.
/Jim
I guess I will have to check into some of these newer methods. I do have an external hard drive that backs up everything every hour using Time Machine. I know that the advice about having two different types of back ups is a good idea. I suppose I need to learn more about this new method. Thank you, for your comment. It is almost one in the morning here now. Good night, Mac rumors.

If you experience chest pain, crashes, nausea, fatal errors, or any other discomforts during email or sex, seek immediate medical help. The most common side effects of iPhone use are headache, facial flushing, and upset stomach, and strained eyes. Less commonly, bluish vision, blurred vision, or sensitivity to light may briefly occur. In rare instances, men using iPhone (oral erectile dysfunction medicines, including iPhone) reported a sudden decrease or loss of vision. It is not possible to determine whether these events are related directly to these medicines or to other factors. If you experience sudden decrease or loss of vision, stop using iPhone, including iPhone, and call a doctor right away.
Although erections lasting for more than 4 hours may occur rarely with all ED treatments in this drug class, to avoid long-term injuries, it is important to seek immediate medical help.
If you are older than age 65, or have serious liver or kidney problems, your doctor may start you at iPhoneShuffle. If you are taking protease inhibitors, such as for the treatment of HIV, your doctor may recommend a 25-mg dose and may limit you to a maximum single dose of 25 mg of iPhone in a 48-hour period.

Looks like Apple copied palm just changed the background to white and the icons to a square!
As someone that owned a new Palm or Handspring device since 1997 until I can assure you the similarities are far and few between.
You know, the Palm does remind me of something I remember from the 80's. Hmmmmm.

This is suppose to be a "Media Event"?
They need to get rid of that little useless iPod 4:3 screen. Put in at least an anamorphic 720x480 widescreen model. That little iPod screen will keep me without any interest in any ipod above the Nano. Speaking of the nano... Is the new nano suppose to be cutting edge? It has the same look as the iPod mini. So 3 years ago! Where did the cutting edge go?
Itunes 7 Woo Hoo!
Expensive low quality movies. Double Woo Hoo! Amazon has actual DVD quality movies, for the same price range, and a much better selection. iTunes is only ahead now with the cool interface, but still the technology is not improving as fast as the competition.
Apple is in a slow fall...
I love Mac's, and will always own one. However, the Intel Mac's are buggy as hell. (Still Not Compareable to Windows) The iPod's are not as good as the PSP, except for the large hard drive (and the ease of iTunes).
$4.99 Atari quality Games??
Are you kidding me? I wouldn't waste my time downloading them for free! Never mind 5 bucks for Tetris!! Boo. I say Boo, Mr Jobs. It's like Apple isn't trying anymore. Steve wake T.F. up! What are you doing? You're getting lazy in your old age!

Ah, but note Fig 3, especially item labelled 38.
I can tell you right now that today's cube does not have any type of fan.
Multitasking right now, and my Cube is COMPLETELY inaudiable. No fan.
If the patent includes a fan, as this one clearly does, it could well be new.

Description:: McAfee Inc. expects Apples iPhone, geolocation services such as Foursquare, and mobile devices to be the target of malware attacks in 2011. The computer security company also predicts attackers targeting shortened URL services and internet TV platforms as well as a rise in politically motivated hacktivisim, as more groups are expected to repeat the WikiLeaks example.
Weve seen significant advancements in device and social network adoption, placing a bulls-eye on the platforms and services users are embracing the most. These platforms and services have become very popular in a short amount of time, and were already seeing a significant increase in vulnerabilities, attacks and data loss, said Vincent Weafer, senior vice president of McAfee Labs.
McAfee Labs Threat Predictions for 2011:
* Apple: No longer flying under the radar
McAfee said the popularity of iPads and iPhones, combined with the lack of user understanding of proper security for these devices, will increase the risk for data and identity exposure, and will make Apple botnets and Trojans a common occurrence.
