I called the general customer service number - National Customer Service Center (NCSC) at 1-800-375-5283.
As I mentioned earlier, I did not go through with the options of sending the info. to the US consulate. But I will give it a try tomorrow. I don't know what you can do with that option (PIMS etc), but it is worthwhile to explore.
At what number did you call? Was it Kentucky Consular Center? Do you mean that we can have our information sent to PIMS system or consulate in India? In other words, does that say anything particularly about PIMS?

Contact the federal elected representative in your employer's district. If they are not immigrant friendly, try the elected representative in your district (if different). There is a congressional liason inquiry process that can be leveraged to expedite your LC application. My application was pending for 8 months with no new status from DoL. I contacted my employer's congressman, explained the situation, and supplied a letter from my attorny, and my LC was approved within 3 weeks.

Guys whatever will happen we got to start sending faxes to white house too. We got to overdo the numberusa pepole by far if we want any hope of relief for EB category.If u go on numberusa they r sending fax everyday to whitehouse n congress. You have the instructions since you quote them. Send exactly what they are asking for, i.e. the form, photos, copy of front and back of previous EAD and check to pay them.
I would suggest you send separate checks if only to be able to get the case number from the back of them when they are cashed.
The instructions clearly say make check payable to the Department of Homeland Security. I believe if you did write them to the USCIS they will still get cashed but follow the instructions.
You seem to have it all under control. Have confidence in yourself and get the applications sent in.

Prepaid taxis at the airport is the best. You dont have to haggle over prices, pay tips or commission or no such nonsense. Fixed rate based on distance. Govt prepaid and Fast track are good. Would suggest Fast track.. decent cars with decent prices.
Fasttrack is even recommended for local travel... reliable call taxi service.
As for hotels, if you are looking at hotels in and around 5 kms of Chennai Central railway station, you can look at areas of Egmore, Kilpauk and Nugambakkam. Aruna Inn in Nugambakkam is a decent 2-3 star. Try to find hotels in these areas and make a researvation thru makemytrip.com or yatra.com

I have about 3 months left on H1b. From your post, it seems that I shud file for extension ASAP and if layoff happens...transfer H1..
Did I interpret you correctly?
When you apply for H1 transfer..they transfer the current H1.
If you have more than 6 months on ur H1 you cannot apply for extension..
when you file for transfer.
So better option would be:
a.) Transfer H1...and then file for extension.
b.) Or file for extension and then change jobs...
if you havent filed for 485.. then you have to restart the GC..and recapture your PD.... i used the option B.
