I guess googling the SIN application process would help, but if you have reliable pointers please send them this way.
At POE they will ask you for an address for the PR card. Normally at land border they are strict and wont take a friends address etc. At airport they tend to be easier on you in accepting any address.
You dont need to do anything else. You may apply for a SIN number (Canada equivalent for an SSN) so that in the future if and when you do move there you can start working from day 1 because YOU WILL need SIN to work in Canada.
Many also start a bank account to show ties. You can do this depending on how much chance you think there is if you move there in the next 3 yrs before you loose your PR status.

I am working on EAD now, which is valid through 07/06/2012.
I have got a job offer from one of the top fortune 500 company recently. They are offering the job with a role of "Lead Technical Architect".
Following are the details from my labor:
Job Title: Programmer/ Analyst/Systems, Software/Engineer/Developer, or Related to IT
Reponsibility:
develop, create and modify general computer application software. Analysis user needs and design, develop software solutions. Design, develop, analyse and implement software and end user product. Coordinate various account projects with IT consultants; nurture close relationship with the major account customers by providing quality technical support and apply principles of computer science, engineering and mathematical analysis.
From the generic nature of the role resonsibility, I feel that the "Lead technical Architect" role will not be a misfit with the requirement of "Similar resposibility".
Can you kindly let me know if you see any violation of the EAD porting requirement in terms of similar responsibilities?

You need to check SOC codes for both the roles and confirm
In general english an Analyst role is different than an Architect role. In any case, to use AC21 your roles should not be different by more than 50 %

What about validating the visas in the US? I think it was some where in Brownback amnd.
There was no provision for validating visas in the US, at least not in our Brownback amendment. I am not aware of that being a rider on any other amendment -- but I wouldnt' rule it out
We will have to do a post-final-bill-with-amendments analysis.

This is my first H1-b. My interview was on Jan. 4, 2008 in Toronto and got 221g for administrative review. I faxed my research description the VO requested to US consulate in Toronto on Jan. 7, 2008, got the check finished email today. I keep calling DOS for my status during the waiting time. In Oct 09 they laid off a couple of people and the attorney instead of revoking a laid off persons h1b sent a note to USCIS to revoke my h1b while im still employed. They informed USCIS to ignore the note they sent but USCIS ignored and cancelled my H1. In the meantime attorney files another h1b and got h1b approval (without i94 stub)
I was getting paystub till now and today they called me and said I was out of status due to the mistake they did. They didn't inform me about the out of status from Nov 07 2009. They basically wanted to cover their mistakes. Now yhey are asking me to go to Canada or Mexico to get H1B stamped. Here are my concerns
1) What will be implication in the embassy for such situations where I'm totally unaware of our of status situation
2) Is there chances of my H1B getting rejected in Canada or mexico due to out of status and would they ask me to go to India from Canada/Mexico ( i don't mind going to india but I have 5 month old baby and woudn't want to risk the travel from US to Canada/mexico to India)

Like I said, if you cannot take a position, how can you even justify reason for amendments? The very reason to offer amendments is disagreement with the current form. If you support this bill, you might as well say "Thanks for sticking it to us and giving away GCs to Y visa holders and untested merits system at our expense. We love to get screwed and we support this bill".
Its not like that the powers to be would take it as an offence and block our amendments. This is the US senate. Not a bunch of prickly teenagers. You can work together with people even if you fundamentally disagree with them.

As per the last revised visa bulletin, the extension period for filling I-485 is Aug 17. But it talks about only I485 and not about I-140.
So can anyone confirm, if one can file I-140 and I-485 concurrently from Aug 1 to Aug 17.

DOS tried to update the system reflecting a big jump in the visa dates for May. The system was unused to any changes lately - leave aside such large forward movements - and as a result it crashed.
DOS managed to recover the system by replacing all date fields with character fields. The rumor is that the value for all those character fields is now "C", whatever that means.

Rollingstone is right. There are chances of the 7th year extension only if your labor is 365 days pending or have an approved labor/I-140. If one of these applies to your case then you should have activated your 3 months of H1B in premium processing. Why didnt you do the premium processing? Now that your 6 years of H1 have ended i really doubt USCIS will consider your case and give the 7th year extension. Not trying to scare you but that's what I feel.

If you need to retain your PD, does the job description need to be similar or can it be different?
Mine is a similar case, I-140 is approved and would like to switch employers on 3 year H1 extension....
My question is can I file for labor through PERM with the new company even if it is in different category and previous I-140 is revoked (worst case, maybe even realistic scenario)? What can my original company do to stop this H1 transfer/filing of new labor from happening?:confused:

afaik your date of first application is your pd. To recapture it, you need to have copy of approved i140 or atleast knowledge that it has been approved.

In another thread, IV is proposing only pushing filing 485 before priority date. I try to understand what the benefits are by filing it. For one thing, you can switch jobs after 6 months? How about setting up your own consulting company?

My understanding is you can setup business even with your H1 status, and has no dependency on 485.
